茂 名 市
茂名市位于广东省西南部，濒临南海。1983年经国务院批准，设立地级市。辖电白县、茂南区和茂名港区，代管高州市、化州市和信宜市。总面积11459平方公里，
人口600多万。
改革开放以来，茂名发生了翻天覆地的变化。全市已建成了以公路、铁路为主的立体交通网络，邮电通信、电力建设迅猛发展，市政建设不断加强，市区已基本建成了容纳50万人口的中等城市框架。
茂名矿藏丰富，有大量的石油资源，是我国南
方最大的石油化工基地。茂名的开发性农业发展较快，盛产荔枝、龙眼、香蕉等南国佳果，被称为‘中国最大的水果生产基地”。也是全国最大的冬种北运菜生产基地之一。茂名还是粮食生产畜牧养殖和水产大市，信宜市的山地养鸡远近闻名。电白博贺港是全省最大的渔港。高州的皮手套、铸铁器；信宜的玉雕和竹、芒、藤、柳工艺品，以及其他地方的化工产品、丝绸、服装、海产品等，远销海内外。
茂名旅游资源丰富，海滨旅游、农业生态旅游和工业观光旅游的潜力大。虎头山、龙头山、第一滩是省级旅游度假区，放鸡岛水下能见度达8米，位居世界第二，被誉为罕见的‘海底公园”，被列为我国待开发潜水旅游景点。 |
MAOMING CITY
Maoming is situated in the southwest of
Guangdong Province and on the verge of
South China Sea. Approved by the State
Council, a prefecture-level city was
established here in 1983, administrating
Dianbai County Maonan District, Maogang
District, Gaozhou City, Huazhou City and
Xinyi City, and with an area of 11,459
square kilometers and a population of
more than six million.
Since
the reform and open-up policy was
implemented, world-shaking changes have
taken place in Maoming. A traffic
network supported by highways and
railways has been set up and the postal
service, telecommunications and power
supply facilities have improved swiftly
and promptly. The urban construction has
been steadily reinforced and the urban
area has formed a medium-sized city
framework of accepting 500 thousand
people.
Maoming
is rich in minerals. With petroleum
resource abundant, Maoming has become
the largest petrochemical base in South
China. Maoming's agriculture has
developed quickly, and it teems with
excellent fruits such as lychee, longan
and bananas, and is named as "the
largest fruit production base in China".
Maoming is also one of the winter
northward vegetable bases and a land of
grain production, stock raising and
aquatics breeding, for example, the
hillslope chicken raising in Xinyi is
well-known far away Bohe Harbor in
Dianbai is the largest fishery port in
Guangdong. Many products have been sold
abroad and at home, such as leather
gloves made in Gaozhou, jade carvings,
handicrafts of bamboo, awn, rattan and
willow produced in Xinyi and chemical
products, silk cloth, garment and marine
products.
Maoming
has plenty of tourist resources, with
great potentials in seaside tourism,
agricultural ecological tourism and
industrial sightseeing. Hutou Mountain,
Longtou Mountain and the First Beach are
provincial tourist holiday area. The
underwater visibility at Fangiidao
Island reaches eight meters, ranking the
second place in the world, and reputed
is "Seabed Garden" rarely found and the
island has been listed as a diving
project for development. |
